Tidal Surge
A Tidal Surge is a temporary and abnormal rise in sea level caused by a combination of low atmospheric pressure and strong winds, often leading to coastal flooding. Speak with a consultant if your site is in a coastal or tidal area to understand surge risk and required mitigation. Tidal surge risk is addressed within the GOV.UK flood risk and coastal change guidance.

Case Example
In December 2013 an east coast tidal surge caused sea levels to rise significantly, leading to coastal flooding across areas such as Norfolk, Suffolk, and Lincolnshire, with thousands of properties affected.
