Freeboard
Freeboard is a safety margin, typically expressed as a vertical allowance (e.g. 300mm or 600mm), added to the predicted peak flood level to determine the minimum height of flood defences or finished floor levels. Speak with a consultant to confirm the correct freeboard allowance for your site as required by the GOV.UK flood risk and coastal change guidance.

Case Example
If a Flood Risk Assessment predicts a peak flood level of 10.0m, the council may require a 600mm freeboard, meaning the building’s finished floor level must be set at least at 10.6m to provide additional protection.
Set correct floor levels. Rida Reports defines freeboard in your FRA.
