Overtopping
Overtopping occurs when the water level in a river, canal, or behind a flood defence exceeds the height of the bank or structure, causing water to flow over it and flood the surrounding area. Case Example
During the Winter 2014 floods in Oxford, water levels in the River Thames and Hinksey Stream rose high enough to overtop their banks, flooding properties in the New Hinksey area.
